Shelly Aug 12, 2010 ~ “My goodness there are a lot of nations in our little world and they all seem to be converging here. For instance, Kevin Skinner has fans in Monaco which was the 169th new flag and now for the 170th nation to visit ‘pum-pa-da-dum’ (drum roll)….The Republic of Tanzania! I love it!”

“Like It’s The Last Goodbye” ~ BEAUTIFUL

Kevin said, “thank everyone for you support from the bottom of my heart.” … to his fans.

This song would make a very romantic wedding song for the bride and groom dance song at a wedding reception. If, I were to ever remarry, I would consider using Kevin’s Skinner’s song, “Like its The Last Goodbye”. ~ See: Top 10 Wedding Song of All Time

Kevin and John Llyod Miller (bio) the producer, both felt that the best place to shoot Kevin’s music video was locally in Mayfield, KY. Most of the music video is shot at Kevin’s sister Jennifer’s house in Mayfield. “Like It’s The Last Goodbye” track 5 from the 1st CD “Long Ride”. The pretty Pamela Lee, is the lady in the video, that you can watch below. Kevin and Pamela are no longer together but the video shows a sweetness that they shared for a time. Sometimes love is fleeting and that last goodbye comes along.

A Summary of Events for Kevin Skinner

It all started in Paducah, Kentucky and on to Chicago…

Kevin’s first auditioned for AGT was in Paducah, KY, and Chicago. Then, he took a flight from Nashville to Los Angeles, and he met America’s Got Talent judges Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne and David Hasselhoff. He said that they were, “the nicest folks you’d ever want to meet.” Each week, Kevin wondered if he would get to stay in the competition.

The votes were counted and Kevin was one of the finalists, which meant he was on his way to Las Vegas for performances next. Coming from the small town of Mayfield, the bright lights of Las Vegas were amazing to see. Kevin stayed at a nice hotel, and he was the only person with a Kentucky drawl and big grin on his face.

Kevin and Grandma (Lee) Kelly from Florida, became fast friends, visited a lot together while eating meals at the Palms Casino and Resort’s buffet. That was Kevin Skinner’s way of life until he was named the TV show’s winner. – “Fans kept voting, not only from Mayfield and around Kentucky, but from all across the United States. Even folks from other countries liked me”, said Kevin.

After the win in Vegas, Kevin returned to L.A., where he performed at several venues, and made appearances on TV shows like The Ellen DeGeneres Show and really took a liking to Ellen. Kevin also performed on The Tonight Show, and went to New York City to appear on TV and enjoyed Regis Philbin’s hospitality during his visit on Live With Regis and Kelly.

Kevin headlines in Las Vegas, and many other gigs around the country. People who know Kevin personally, say that fame has not gone to his head. Kevin is a real “down to earth” kind of guy.

“To Make You Feel My Love” Lyrics

Written by Garth Brooks

Kevin Skinner When the rain is blowing in your face
And the whole world is on your case
I could offer you a warm embrace
To make you feel my love
When the evening shadows and the star appear
And there is no one to dry your tears
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love
I know you haven’t made your mind up yet
But I would never do you wrong
I’ve known it from the moment that we met
There’s no doubt in my mind where you belong
I’d go hungry, I’d go black and blue
I’d go crawling down the avenue
There ain’t nothing that I wouldn’t do
To make you feel my love…

After Garth Brooks heard Kevin sing his songs on AGT, he sent Kevin an autographed picture of himself and is a fan. — Pictured: “Guitar Player” vector clip-art free image.

“If Tomorrow Never Comes” Lyrics

Kevin does a wonderful job on this Garth Brooks song.

Sometimes late at night
I lie awake and watch her sleeping
Shes lost in peaceful dreams
So I turn out the lights and lay there in the dark
And the thought crosses my mind
If I never wake up in the morning
Would she ever doubt the way I feel
About her in my heart
(chorus)
If tomorrow never comes
Will she know how much I loved her
Did I try in every way to show her every day
That shes my only one
And if my time on earth were through
And she must face the world without me
Is the love I gave her in the past
Gonna be enough to last
If tomorrow never comes
cause I’ve lost loved ones in my life
Who never knew how much I loved them
Now I live with the regret
That my true feelings for them never were revealed
So I made a promise to myself
To say each day how much she means to me
And avoid that circumstance
Where there’s no second chance to tell her how I feel
(chorus)
So tell that someone that you love
Just what you’re thinking of
If tomorrow never comes

A Little History About Kevin

Picture of Kevin and Pamel Lee on July 24, 2010

Kevin Skinner and Pamela Lee In this picture, Kevin and Pamela Lee were looking forward to sharing their lives together but the relationship changed and they ended up saying their last goodbye. I wish them both a future with a new love. – Kevin has 2 children. Kevin’s parents are Joe and Jacklin Skinner of Mayfield, Kentucky.

Kevin has 3 siblings in Mayfield, one sister, Jennifer and 2 brothers, Rodney and Michael. They all grew up listening to their dad sing and play Hank Williams Sr. songs on guitar ~ what a heritage! Kevin graduated from Graves County High School. Kevin, Jennifer and Rodney played in a band they called Skinner and Friends, with some friends. Michael, the oldest, earned his master’s degree in music from the University of Notre Dame and became a classical pianist. Skinner and Friends band used to play at Wrangler’s Campground in the Land Between the Lakes, also at Hill’s Bar-B-Que near the Kevil Korner in Kentucky. – Kevin you are touching hearts and changing lives, as yours changes!

Kevin your fan “flatlandermom” wrote this to you Oct. 6th 2009
“Kevin, I just want you to know that your audition performance of “If Tomorrow Never Comes” touched my heart. I showed the performance to my husband, and he said that was one of his favorite songs. That’s when I realized how he really felt about me, even after nearly 10 years of marriage. Now, when I watch your performance again, I get a warm feeling and love my husband even more! Thank you for sharing your talent. It has made a difference in our marriage!!!”

He likes to sit on the porch at night and count the stars. It was easy to see that the judges and audience loved Kevin when he was on America’s Got Talent with a sweetness about him that shines. Kevin interacted with the judges and everyone with genuine humility. He truly is a performer and was being funny at times. I loved his chicken catcher story, that was hilarious. Picture 04.17.10 Metropolis, ILL Concert Tour

It was an exciting year for Kevin and his fans! I’m a fan who would still love to see Kevin Skinner live in concert.

Willie Nelson signed Kevin’s guitar. Kevin went to a concert of Willie’s while in Vegas, and got to meet Willie back stage after the concert.

Paulette Milton wrote in the Guest Book Feb 16, 2010 @ 10:28 pm — “You rock Kevin! I wish you even more than you are hoping for. Thank you for taking the risk of living your dream right in front of us. Like “they” say: “Nothing ventured, nothing gained”. I was excited to learn you are working on a cd and will surely be buying one. I will also be buying concert tickets, can’t wait to see you (and hear you) live. I just know I’ll cry.”

Louise M wrote on Mar 3, 2010 – “It is my fondest wish to get myself to a live Kevin Skinner concert. I suppose I should arrange for that sooner than later as I am now pushing 80 and have not so enjoyed a performer in many years. I have long been partial to performers with a country heart regardless of their actually singing country exclusively. I would like to hear more of Kevin’s own songs as well as some standards and will be tapping my toe as I go. (Yes, you got everyone of my votes Kevin except for a few for Grandma Lee, we grannys must stick together a little bit.) It has been my pleasure to visit here, somewhere I read that someone was in Kevin heaven, I think I am there right this moment. All my very best wishes to Kevin and his family and I hope he doesn’t get involved in the foolishness that fame can bring. Now to stick my nose in where it doesn’t belong, please pack away the smokes Kevin.”

“I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” Lyrics

An Aerosmith Song … Wow!

I could stay awake just to hear you breathing
Watch you smile while you are sleeping
While your’e far away dreaming
I could spend my life in this sweet surrender
I could stay lost in this moment forever
Every moment spent with you is a moment I treasure

Don’t want to close my eyes (Chorus)
I don’t want to fall asleep
Cause I’d miss you baby
And I don’t want to miss a thing
Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream will never do
I’d still miss you baby
And I don’t want to miss a thing

Lying close to you feeling your heart beating
And I’m wondering what you’re dreaming
Wondering if its me you’re seeing
Then I kiss your eyes
And thank God were together
I just want to stay with you in this moment forever
Forever and ever

Chorus

I don’t want to miss one smile
I don’t want to miss one kiss
I just want to be with you
Right here with you, just like this
I just want to hold you close
Feel your heart so close to mine
And just stay here in this moment
For all the rest of time

Chorus

Don’t want to close my eyes
I don’t want to fall asleep
I don’t want to miss a thing

Kevin has a heart of gold, and I am so proud of the good deeds he does to help children at St. Jude’s. I will never regret becoming a fan of his, because he isn’t going to change who he is.

You know how it is when you become a fan of someone, we think of someone as bigger than life in a way. Well, Kevin is a down to earth kind of guy, who has a special place in our hearts.

Kevin Skinner and George Jones 05.22.10 Concert

The picture is from the night of the concert and meeting a country legend was a thrill for Kevin.

The show was opened by Kevin, who warmed up the crowd with a mix of his tunes and of Lynard Skynard and Garth Brooks. George Jones filled up Horseshoe Casino’s outdoor venue. Loyal fans had the opportunity to see a Legend of country music perform. Jones at 79, delighted his fans with a long list of hits, even though his voice has slipped a little. His songs of drinking and heartbreak still have their impact from the famous man. (Haven’t found a music video yet.)
Thanks for the picture ‘oldhippy’, with thanks from Kevin for the support. I have another photo of George signing Kevin’s guitar, Kevin was watching every stroke of the pen.

Her Stone

Kevin wrote this song for his grandma.

Kevin has always loved music, singing, playing guitar, and song writing. His dream has been in the back of his mind always, and though it might have seemed like an impossible dream, Kevin never let anything stop him from reaching his goal.

After Kevin’s grandmother died he also wrote “Her Stone” because he needed a way to deal with the pain inside and began to write songs that flowed to him. He sings “Her Stone” with feeling and healing from grief! ~ It touched a place inside of me that revealed my humanity and opened a flood of feelings I hadn’t allowed myself to feel in awhile. I lost that music video and haven’t been able to get it back. I’m sure Kevin will record it someday!

“They are not dead who live in the hearts they leave behind.” ~ Ancient Proverb
(Grandma is proud of you Kevin. Its not about money and fame with you. Its about love.)
Kevin’s Grandma, Ethel Clapp died and after her death Kevin wanted to find a way to deal with the pain in his heart.

The song was written and performed by Kevin Skinner. The song was written for his grandmother who passed away. I hit my knees and cried out loud When the doctor said Done all I can do That’s the day I lost you I led the line it was single file through that little church Said my last goodbye oh how I tried But lately I find myself going back on my words I’m finding out how hard life is just to live without her So if you see me as you’re passing on the road And if its raining and I’m standing out in the cold Don’t think I’m crazy if it seems I’m talking to myself Don’t get alarmed now, no there’s nothing wrong I’m just talking to her stone So many times she helped me by with her love It came so easily, came so easily Guess that’s why I’m sitting here right now On my hands and knees Down on my hands and knees Cuz there’s times when I need her advise when I’m fighting with myself There’s things in this ol’ world You can’t get through by yourself IV So if you see me as you’re passing on the road And if its raining and I’m standing out in the cold Don’t think I’m crazy if it seems I’m talking to myself Don’t get alarmed now, no there’s nothing wrong I’m just talking to her stone Wo oo oooo oooo Wo oo oooo ooooo Wo oo oooo oooo oooooo If you see me as you passing on the road And if its raining and I’m standing out in the cold, Don’t think I’m crazy if it seems I’m talking to myself, Don’t get alarmed now, no there’s nothing wrong, I’m just talking to her stone No there’s nothing wrong, I’m just talking to her stone

We had never done that before and maybe never will again and you should have heard us laugh. All the best to you and your family and to those that are managing this website that is so fun to visit! We love the pictures and stories. We won’t get to Vegas but will definitely see you as your career moves you on.”

We are in our 60’s and I am from Texas originally but have lived in Alaska for 30 years. So I am very much a country girl still. Love your music and the feelings you put into each song. Got to get your CD. Hope we can get one up here in Alaska. Best of luck. You are going far.”

Kevin Skinner and Sister Jen

By the way, Kevin’s 1st music video was shot at Jen’s house in Mayfield, Kentucky. Jen has been singing with her brother Kevin since they were kids. She still gets a spot on stage with Kevin and her singing has even improved since the first time I heard her sing in 2009 on an old YouTube video and I was impressed then! (what a sweetheart). Jen is a real nice lady, and she sure does love Kevin and it is evident he feels the same way about her ~ a very loving and supportive family.

Skinner and Friends Practicing Before the Concert

Kevin and the band “Skinner and Friends” in Mayfield Sept. 26th 2009

About 6,000 fans lined-up for the concert half-way around the school building. Some fans were there 12 hours early to see Kevin perform. Kevin rocked the house with songs like “Free Bird” and “Sweet Home Alabama” and some originals. Some fans said Kevin sounded better with his original band (included his older brother) than he did on AGT. Kevin signed hundreds of autographs after the 2 hour free concert.

Food, beverages, t-shirts, and other things were being sold at the free concert. All that Kevin asked is that, the proceeds went to help the kids at St. Jude. He was assured they would.

Willie Nelson & Kevin

The outlaw of country music star Willie Nelson wrote and composed the song that Kevin sang, “Always On My Mind” at American’s Got Talent. Willie wrote the song and dedicated it to his dad. When Kevin sang it at AGT, he dedicated it to his dad. Both performers have song and played it on guitar with such emotion, that transcends itself in spirit.

This is a picture of Kevin Skinner and Willie Nelson in Vegas after a concert of Willie’s. Kevin went backstage after the concert and met Willie and got his guitar autographed by Willie. Valuable guitar!.

A Great Willie Nelson Song!

Kevin dedicated “Always On My Mind” to his Dad who is right proud of his son. Joe wasn’t able to attend the AGT shows due to health reasons but he made it for the finale to be with his son.

I’m sure Willie is real proud of you too Kevin, and it must have been great for you to meet him in person!

You Were “Always On My Mind” ~ by Willie Nelson

Picture of Willie and Kevin

Maybe I didn’t treat you
Quite as good as I should have
Maybe I didn’t love you
Quite as often as I could have
Little things I should have said and done
I just never took the time

You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind

Tell me, tell me that your sweet love hasnt died
Give me, give me one more chance
To keep you satisfied, satisfied

Maybe I didn’t hold you
All those lonely, lonely times
And I guess I never told you
I’m so happy that you’re mine
If I make you feel second best
Girl, I’m sorry I was blind

You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind

Tell me, tell me that your sweet love hasn’t died
Give me, give me one more chance
To keep you satisfied, satisfied

Little things I should have said and done
I just never took the time
You were always on my mind
You are always on my mind
You are always on my mind

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
How did the invention of money affect trade?
The Lydains were the first to develop coin money in their region of the world.

    • ANSWER:
To answer this, picture trade without money. How do you convince someone to give up something you want (without stealing it)? You have to bring something they want.

Imagine going to the store with things to sell, and how the store clerk would have to choose what to accept in return for your groceries, hardware or game consoles.

Currency, made of valuable metals, stored value for use later. A merchant could accept currency at acceptable rates of exchange and spend it months later. Not possible with eggs and cabbages, impractical with bricks and pottery. Really awkward with cars!

Here are a few sites for more information:

      http://www.ex.ac.uk/~RDavies/arian/origins.html

  2. QUESTION:
what is your opinion on money and the effect is has on society?
Money is one system we ve created for dealing with the problem of scarcity. The more of it you have, the more abundance you have. You can buy things, do things, and persuade people in ways that others can t. In this sense, money gives you more choices, and as an extension, more freedom. The richest people in the world can do almost anything they want.
For many of us though, a lack of money has the opposite effect. It creates a type of wage slavery, where you have to trade your freedom to others in exchange for money in order to survive. For instance, you might ve wanted to sleep in this morning, but you could nt, because you had to go to work and make money. So, you subordinated your individual wishes to the almighty dollar and got out of bed. It s ironic, if you think about it. Money is supposed to be a way for distributing freedom, but in order to get that freedom, you have to give yours up. The majority of the world never gets out of that loop, doing their best to balance life and work, or how much freedom they receive and give away.

So, after reading all of this, what do you think?

    • ANSWER:
This is about the effects of money in our institution of marriage, family and society:

The evil effects of money on marriage are taking its toll on the once sacred institution of marriage in many Christian countries of the world. For some couples, money is only secondary in keeping marriage work. For others, it is a necessary evil. But we all know that many couples, who for many years have struggled to keep their marriage work, would later find out that love alone is not a guarantee that marriage will work. There will come a time when money will come into the picture especially for couples who are not rich or those who are just earning enough to maintain and provide for a decent family life.

When the head of the family falters in providing the basic needs of the family, the relationship between the husband and the wife usually suffers. The marriage that was once anchored on love and mutual respect is slowly being ruined because of money or the lack of it. The husband who failed to provide for the basic needs of the family is the first person who takes the blame. The poor guy who has been used to earning a living as an entrepreneur or as an employee or even as an executive of a business entity, suddenly found himself unemployed or that his company suffered because of economic and business reverses due to external forces beyond his control, then the situation will undoubtedly bring about a major cause of conflict between the husband and the wife. In most cases the inability of the husband to provide for the basic necessities of the family becomes the focal point of conflict between the husband and the wife. The wife becomes irritable and problematic, then slowly losing the love, affection and respect that she once have for her husband, all because of money.

It is hard to imagine that money becomes a major consideration in the success or failure of marriage. On the other hand, it is equally hard to assume that love and affection for couples caught in such situation could vanish in time because of the need for money as an ingredient for economic survival.

Evil Effects of Money on Family:
The family suffers when love is lost between husband and wife. The children, especially when they are young, usually suffer much in terms of the need for economic or financial support from parents. In some cases, the young adults will try to go their own way to satisfy their economic needs while the young will suffer in many ways. As marriage fails because of the evil effects of money in our lives, some couples would continuously try to resist the situation but will always be subjected to the negative effects of the lack of money to provide for the basic necessities of the family.

The Evil Effects of Money in Our Society:
As money is a necessary evil, some misguided elements in our society will try every imaginable means to make money at all cost. Some would engage in smuggling, kidnapping, robbery or even killing just to satisfy the greed for money. Government leaders would get involved in graft and corruption to make money. Politicians will try to twist and circumvent the law to make quick money and perpetuate themselves in power.

When money that is earned becomes questionable because of the way it is generated, then it becomes a crime to make money. When one makes so much money, especially if it is generated illegally, then he gets tempted to try and do sinful acts that other people cannot do with out money.

      The Right Thing to Do:
The right thing to do perhaps is to give more emphasis on the emotional and spiritual components of marriage. Some of us would say that money, or the lack of it, is the primary reason for the breakdown of marriage in our society. Most of us I believe, have realized that money alone cannot make the marriage work. And we all know that if it cannot work in marriage and in the family, it can never work in our society. I believe that the emotional and spiritual component of our Christian life will have to come into play if we consider the evil effect of money in our life in particular and in our society in general

  3. QUESTION:
    Which banks exchange money?
I needed some money really bad so I sold my PS3 to my friend for 0. But it turns out what he paid me with was money he’d copied with his computer. Which banks will exchange it for real money that I can spend elsewhere?

    • ANSWER:
Copied money with his computer? are you serious? Are you stupid? you got scammed, buddy. pictures of money arent traded for real money at any bank, because it’s not real money.

you need to get your ps3 back, or get some real cash for it. you cant use copied money, it’s against the law.

  4. QUESTION:
what is the technics of trading of shares?

    • ANSWER:
What are the techniques of trading shares? You don’t ask for much for 2-10 points, do you?

Some of the basics, assuming the basics of a brokerage arrangement wherein a company actually makes the exchange at a stock exchange (or swap between fortuitous internal orders for buying and selling that happen to come up at about the same time), involve purpose. At the start, there are two primary distinctions–speculation and investment. Speculations are dealing with stocks for a short-term price advantage. Investments are more long-term and can include price appreciation, dividends paid, a convenient holding for money against currency values (if the Yen were going up and the dollar down and I had my money invested in Japanese companies but not American, then I would likely hold some value simply by virtue of the country’s currency), etc.

The simplest method is according to the tired old line, “Buy low, sell high”. But that is easier said than done because prices fluctuate for a variety of reasons. Suppose we looked at two companies which we will call A and B. Both are on the list for the price being at the low for the year, so in the last 52 weeks, the price was not lower. Then buy shares in both. But the price for A drops further and the price for B rises. You’ve got to figure out why. Some things are seasonal, somethings simply out of favor because so many people are spending money on other things. Some things some times don’t move much and as time marches on a previous near-high can become the new low. If business improves, then buying at the low for the year will be good because it will be going higher. Some companies are selling at their low for the year because things are bad and the price is going lower.

And this brings the next issue, the momentum of movement. Prices going down tend to go down until something significantly changes the momentum of motion. Prices going up sometimes tend to go up until reality meets euphoria and says, “Hey, stupid, we’ve gone too far already.” There are people who look at price charts and make their decisions and they are called chartists or technical traders.

Volume of sales is also part of the picture. If price is going down and volume is increasing, the question is are they buying or selling? If a trade takes place then both have happened but judging the crowd is part of the issue. If the mass of humanity trading is trying to sell, dumping their shares, then some folks say, “I can get this cheap” and offer to buy, but at a lower price, which then means the price falls more. The opposite also is true, but if people are also buying when the mob is dumping, those buying might know something.

And this brings us to the fundamentalists. These are people who look at the business trends and how well the company is doing business. Is it making a profit? Good. Are its competitors making more profit? Good, we will look closer to the competitors. Are there prospects of continuing to make a profit? Good. Do the competitors have better prospects? Good, we will look closer at those competitors.

All of these are speculative things that I’ve just generally touched, but there are simply those who have a need to invest for the long run and want to put their money somewhere to go to work–where the money works, not trying to guess the market and make money over the sale of stock. For instance, I can invest in companies that have been mining gold for years and making bunches of bucks for years doing it, or I can get shares of a company opening a new mine or an additional field. Once we solve the problem of honesty (Mark Twain said of his gold mine investments, a gold mine is just a hole in the ground surrounded by liars), we look at prospects. If the information is true or even largely true, will they make money by digging on that piece of ground? Then if I buy stock in that company, I am buying part of that action–the digging for precious metals, not the stock market action. Investing, be it mines or refineries or retail stores, is doing something productive, otherwise you are just betting. In the long run, assuming the company does dig up gold and it does enough of it to cover its cost and have money left over (profits), then I make money with my investment.

Techniques, then have to do with purpose and available information.

  5. QUESTION:
What did the Trade of the Byzantine Empire look like?
    I need a picture

    • ANSWER:
The trade was like now days. There were coins(named solidus= 4.48gr of gold, the smallest was follis=1/144 of solidus),and directives to secure that the trade was legal. Of course there were taxes. There were also trade between empires and countries. Many people were rich and did money through trade. There were also monopolies like the “Porfira” (the red color made by special shells) and silk (china). So it was pretty much like now days. But also have in mind that the empire was from: 330 B.c.(Great Konstandinos) until 1453 A.c.(Konstadinos Paleologos). You can find little information on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byzantine_Empire

      I hope I;ve helped you

  6. QUESTION:
Does anyone have any suggested trades that would be good for the Chicago Bulls?
They need a trade for either a star or a post player. With Gasol out of the picture, who should they go for?

    • ANSWER:
The Bulls need to trade their owner, Jerry Reinsdorf, for somebody who doesn’t just care about putting money in his own pocket. The owner of the Grizzlies was interviewed about trading Pau Gasol to the Lakers instead of the Bulls, and he said the sticking point was that the Bulls didn’t want to pay the luxury tax that would come with having Gasol’s salary. Screw that guy, he got lucky with Jordan and he didn’t even want to pay the guy what he was clearly worth. Now we can see what kind of business man Reinsdorf really is.

I think in reality, there are no players available that the Bulls could use…we need a center or power forward that can score in the low post. I think we might be able to get Zach Randolph from the Knicks, but I don’t think he’s a good fit personality-wise.

I say try to see if we can get rid of Ben Wallace (who would play well next to Eddy Curry in NY) and start Noah at center, Tyrus Thomas and Deng at forward, and Thabo and Captain Kirk at guard. That would leave us with Nocinoi, Gordon, and Joe Smith on the bench. It’s not the most mature lineup, and Noah and Thomas would get eaten up, but at least they would be getitng some experience.

  7. QUESTION:
Want to start taking pictures for money?
I’m thinking about taking some pictures to make some money on the side if I can (I’m going to college right now). I have my eye on a couple of cameras but I am not sure they are quite the quality I need but I’m also on a bit of a budget so I can’t get a big, fancy 800 dollar camera obviously. The ones I am looking at are the canon x400 14 megapixel and the kodak pixpro az521. If you know or can find anything out about these that would be nice (I’m not having much luck) and if you know a better camera for me or any other equipment I may need. If you have anything else to throw in feel free to throw those in as well.
Since it came up no I am not just interested in making money I am ready to learn what I need as well.
Thanks NickP for pointing out the canon/GE thing I don’t know why I typed canon.

    • ANSWER:
      What is your priority…

To me, you seem to be more ‘focused’ on making money….rather than learning your trade.

If you understand the basics in photography and take your time to learn what makes different camera equipment more suitable for different levels, styles and subjects then you really can’t go wrong when choosing your ‘kit’.

You might find this answer to be ‘harsh’…because you are asking this question and the very nature of the question…I wouldn’t advise you to buy anything…you aren’t ready.

      Sorry.

  8. QUESTION:
What happens if you trade in a broken Gamecube to Gamestop? LOL…?
I have this black Gamecube and the power button still works, but it doesnt play games.

Do they check if it works first?
    Then give you the money?
    Lol.

Last time i tried trading in a game and they only asked for picture ID.
But they dont ask for Adress or anything.

    • ANSWER:
Trading games in is different then trading consoles. When you trade in a console they hook it up to a TV and put a game in and play a couple minutes of the game. If anything goes wrong they wont take it. So too bad for you, sell it on Ebay, but say it’s broken because some people buy broken ones.

  9. QUESTION:
Would a unique picture frame business be profitable/in demand?
I am pondering starting a business creating unique picture frames. I love being creative but I also need to eat. So, I need to know if picture frames are really in demand. I mean, how concerned is the public about picture frames. I am in Richmond, Va. Is there room in the market for a framing business? Any and all ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!

    • ANSWER:
To help you research more about the business, get hold of copies of Picture Framing Magazine http://www.pictureframingmagazine.com/home.asp , which is the trade publication for this business. They have a Buyer’s Directory that lists all suppliers for this business.

I think frames still have a place as people will always love to surround themselves with pictures of their loved ones. Even with the digital pictures, I think many people print the pictures and put in frames those that they treasure best.

To make money from this business, though, you have to have an excellent distribution system. You need to be in department stores, in catalogs, in boutiques and stores both offline and online. I think this is a segmented market with no dominant key players, so you have to be extremely crafty in look and style, and very savvy in your distribution.

  10. QUESTION:
The picture on my television doesn’t work. I only get 1/3 picture in the middle of the screen.?
Is this worth fixing? I get 1/3 of the picture in the middle of the screen. I think it’s most of the picture, but not the entire picture. There is a static line at the top of the picture, and distortion lines covering the bottom half. Does anyone know what could be wrong, or if it’s worth getting it fixed? Thanx.

    • ANSWER:
Did the Picture Shrink all at Once, or was it Gradual ? If so, it’s nothing more than a Capacitor. It’s only about .50 , but Tracking it down, Unsoldering the Old Capacitor, and Soldering in the New One is the “Trick”.If it’s the Vertical Output Chip, then it’s about .00 for the Part.If the Color is OK in what’s left of Your Picture, then the Picture Tube is OK.Do You Know Anyone that’s taking Electronics at the Local Community College ? If so, You can get it Fixed for very Little. A TV Repair Shop is going to Charge around .A good bit of what a TV Repair Shop Charges goes right out the Door for Taxes, FICA, Business License Fees, Etc. So, when You’re Charged that kind of Price, they’re not the ones Ripping You Off. It’s the System that makes it so difficult to be in Business. That’s why I’m no longer in it.I’ll still do a few Repairs for My Friends, that I know well enough that I don’t Charge them Anything. Dinner ? For Me, the Money in Electronics is in Auto Repair. A lot of the Very Same Parts are in TV Sets, but a Circuit Board in a Car might be 0 + to Replace , and only Require a Minor Repair, Like Your TV ! If You don’t want to Spend the Money to fix your TV, and it’s a Fairly Nice Set, rather than Throw it in the Landfill, find out if You can Donate it to a TV Repair Shop so They can Fix it, and Sell it.They might even accept it as a Trade In for a Nicer Set.

  11. QUESTION:
    Is money necessary?????
What would the world without money look like? I’m not talking socialism here either. Do reasoning beings absolutely need money?

To tell you the truth, I saw that zeitgeist video thing or whatever the guy is called but can’t really picture a society that’s not based on the monetary system.

    • ANSWER:
they trading of goods for things was too unrealistic. so they started using gold, then found it was better to use printed money. with gold as a backup.

  12. QUESTION:
    Is money necessary??????????
What would the world without money look like? I’m not talking socialism here either. Do reasoning beings absolutely need money?

To tell you the truth, I saw that zeitgeist video thing or whatever the guy is called but can’t really picture a society that’s not based on the monetary system.

    • ANSWER:
Using money is a heck of a lot easier than trading for everything you need. How could you expect a restaurant, for example, to operate if it needs to work out an acceptable trade with each customer depending on what they want and what they have to offer? And how would you keep wealth? Hoard everything that is of any value in your home? And then carry it to around to trade for the things you need?

      Yeah, money is quite necessary.

  13. QUESTION:
what makes the most money in construction businesses? Carpenter, masonary, electrical ect.?
what would be the most profitable construction business?

    • ANSWER:
I have been an electrical contractor for 32 years. I work service and construction projects.

With electrical work, one can conduct a service business. When the construction slows a service crew can work. Also, with having several customers a day, if one doesn’t pay you will be okay.

On the other hand, with construction projects, the money is tied up for a while, and often for quite a while. Also, when other trades are involved people are more likely to wind up it lawsuits, than dealing with just the owner on service work.

For example, if a property owner gets pissed off at the general contractor, the owner sometimes quits paying everyone, or a least there is a delay in payment, and with a lot of money out on materials and labor, this can get quite harmful.

This notion goes for carpenter, and masonary. Except, the handyman buisness, carpenters can do small projects, and not have a lot of money invested. Service work is out of the picture for wood and brick people.

My gross profit for service work was around 80%, and with construction work the gross profit was about 50%. But more complicated things are within construction work as also more competion.

Service work here is about 0. per hour per worker, and the material is marked up double. But, for like switches and plugs the unit cose is about . each, but the charge is about .

With construction work at the electrical side, the bid labor rate is around -60, and the markup on the material is about 20%
The more scientific the work is, the less the competion, and thus the price goes up/

Further, if I am real busy, I will bid/charge more for my work, that I would when things are slow.

Another thing is, in the building trades if I pay an employee 0. the total with taxes and workers compensation makes the 0 into 0.

In electrical work now in most venues, one needs to get certified employees, and this cost money. With brick, there are lots of people from Mexico, here in California that will work for per day, the same is almost true with carpentery.

But, contractors are always looking to cut corners, and a lot of guys are really dishonest. One needs to get everything in writing.

With electrical service work, often its under emergency conditions, as the power is off and some guy that own, for example an industrial factory, with employees standing around getting paid for nothing, and further not making any product, a service contractor is a very inportant person to this guy. ( Hence, the price may go up.) With wood and brick, this will never happen.

The liabilty insurance for electrical is higher, but the trucks can be smaller than the ones that are used for brick.

If you do electrical work, you will need benders, drills, tool box, truck, cords, ladders.

With brick you need a big flatbed truck, and mixer, etc. Thus, not as much as electrical. Carpenters are the same, saws, truck, guys to lug around large peices of wood. Hence with electrical, a guy can really make money with 2, 3, 4, 5 guys.

When you lay off a guy, often you get stuck with paying a large amount of unemployment. So, construction work can have a few surprises. And now, there is virtually no construction going on, like therr was 7 years ago, so the work is a lot of service, and that brings advertising costs.

With brick and carpentery I do not think advertising would be that competive, as in emergency work, electrical guys really can pay alot for service work. Its best to have a few good accounts with people that need a electrican all-of-the-time. This brings the costs down, but this also means one must give deals out for larger accounts.

I hope this gives you some insight. Good luck.

  14. QUESTION:
What’s a good camera for taking pictures and good photography? :)?
List of brand name and cost would be nice :)

    • ANSWER:
All cameras are good for taking pictures. They make very poor hammers though. And are utterly useless as food. Well, unless you take very good pictures that you sell for money to buy food. Or, you can trade pictures for food.

Other than cameras for taking pictures, few items come close. If you have an artistic eye, you may be able to paint, draw, or even sculpt pictures. I don’t have the patience.

Hey, as long as I think I’m funny that’s all that really matters.

      But on a serious note:
      Stick to CAMERA brands
There are some pretty good 8-15mp cameras starting about 5-150.
Your preference will be based on your skill and intended use, how the camera looks, feels, and if the controls make sense to you.

If you stick to the real camera brands, the ones who have been around a while, then you will get what you pay for.

  15. QUESTION:
how does the trade in games thing work for Gamestop?

    • ANSWER:
If you bring in a game to trade in, there is a trade in value that is set by the corporate headquarters. You can take it in either trade value or cash (about 22% less and you need to be 18 with a valid picture ID)

As much as everyone on here complains about Gamestop policies, you have to remember that they are a business and they need to make money – they need to cover rent, utilities, payroll, etc. No company will every give you the same amount of money you can get by selling the game yourself – the only advantage is that you know that they will buy the game (unless it is from an older system or the disc is unusable and they can’t resell it) and you don’t have the hassle of finding a buyer and waiting for the cash.

eBay grew from a program originally designed by eBay founder Pierre Omidyar as a way for his then girlfriend to connect with other Pez dispenser collectors. The community grew to a point where people were trading more than just Pez dispensers, and Pierre was no longer able to handle the support requests. In an attempt to limit the number of users, Pierre began charging a dime to list an item. Despite the ten-cent listing fee, Pierre’s online flea market continued to grow.

Well, that’s eBay’s official story. Regardless of any rumors about how it really got started, today’s eBay is unquestionably the largest and most successful auction site on the net.

      Pros
eBay is the most visited eCommerce site in the world
More than 60 million active buyers all in one location
Fully integrated with Doba’s Push to Marketplace tool
Listing items for sale is easy
Fully integrated with the PayPal payment system
Tons of third-party software available to help you build and grow your eBay business a thousand different ways
Ability to list in multiple marketplaces such as the auction site, eBay Stores, and eBay Express
      Cons
Fees can add up, with a fee to list, sell, and accept payment (assuming you use PayPal or any other third-party payment processor)
Highly competitive marketplace makes it difficult to garner high profits in many categories
According to eBay policy, all drop ship products should be listed as “pre-sale” items

Launched in 1995 as one of the first major companies to sell goods over the Internet, Amazon.com started as an online bookstore. Over the years, Amazon.com diversified its product selection and even started an online auction to rival eBay.

For a time, Amazon.com Auctions was the only legitimate competition eBay had in the U.S. Then, without warning, Amazon.com discontinued development and marketing of their auction site.

Today, sellers are able to list on Amazon.com’s retail marketplace, which enjoys much higher visitation than Amazon.com Auctions. Because of this, we’ll focus this dossier on Amazon’s retail marketplace.

      Pros
Sellers typically report higher average profit margins than on auction sites
Amazon.com handles payment and refund requests
Unlike eBay, Amazon.com is involved in the transaction between buyer and seller this makes it appear to buyers as though they are buying direct from Amazon.com which enjoys a high level of trust among consumers
      Cons
Because Amazon.com is involved in the transaction, restrictions and policies are much more strict than on eBay
Consumers pay Amazon.com, not you, so you lose some control over the handling of purchases, as well as how and when you get paid
Rules governing item descriptions are highly restrictive
Shipped items must be packaged according to Amazon.com’s specifications

Founded in 1995 by Craig Newmark, Craig’s List is a cross between a virtual community center and online garage sale. Originally intended for just the San Francisco Bay Area, Craig’s List expanded to include nine more cities in 2002 and now claims a spot in more than 300 cities around the world.

Although Craig’s List is very much a social site, with a personals section, discussion forums, help wanted ads, and more, it is perhaps best known for its free classified ads section.

Classified ads are generally very short and simple text only. Although HTML ads are allowed, they are very rare, which could be a telling statement about the community that frequents Craig’s List. The Craig’s List community includes over 10 million unique visitors per month.

      Pros
      Completely free to list
Access to a large and loyal group of potential buyers
      Ads with HTML are allowed
      Cons
The site is divided by region, so most buyers browse only their local listings
      Doba Friendliness
Currently, no method is available to push Doba products directly to Craig’s List

Dealio is a comparison shopping Web browser toolbar that users must download and install. When a Dealio-enabled browser opens a product page, the toolbar displays price comparisons from competing sites.

Getting items listed on the Dealio toolbar is free (except for a one-time inclusion fee). Merchants improve their rank in the listings according to their popularity, which is measured by its click-through rate.

      Pros
Have your items displayed when someone visits a competing site
Standard product placements are free (after payment of the one-time inclusion fee)
      Cons
A buyer might leave your site after clicking through to it, if they see a better deal on the Dealio toolbar

ePier is one of the few early eBay copycats that has managed to survive. Launched in 1998, it is hot on the heels of OnlineAuction.com in terms of the number of concurrently running listings.

Due to lack of funding, ePier has experienced its fair share of problems but continues to maintain a very faithful following.

      Pros
      No listing fees
The fact that they’ve survived this long while others with much more capital have failed shows that ePier is here to stay
      Steady growth
      Cons
Long waits for answers from tech support due to limited funding for staff
Long delays in getting bugs fixed

Founded in 1996, Shopzilla now attracts about 18 million visitors each month. Though Shopzilla is primarily a comparison shopping site, it also offers email marketing services.

Shopzilla operates on a cost-per-click (CPC) basis, meaning sellers pay only for actual visits to their site. But, unlike other comparison shopping sites, sellers bid for position. The amount you are willing to pay for each click determines your position in the search listings.

Clicks on your listing direct to your webstore.

      Pros
List for free, pay only when your listing is clicked
Upload items in bulk with a product data file
You choose the amount you’re willing to pay for clicks through a bidding process
      Cons
Competing in high-bid categories can be cost-prohibitive for mom-and-pop retailers
      _______________________________________________

AlsoLarge companies are very aware of this bargain-hunter mentality, and they use it to their advantage. They don’t just say they’re having a sale; they give reasons why this sale is the best ever. See if any of these “reasons to believe” sound familiar:

“We’re blowing out our entire inventory to make room for next year’s models.”
      “We’ve slashed prices insanely low!”
      “Everything must go!”
“We’re in a contest to be the highest volume car seller in America and in an effort to win we’re selling cars BELOW factory invoice!”
“It’s our grand opening. To prove to you our store is great, we’re kicking off with a crazy sale! Everything is 50% off!”
These are all reasons for customers to believe that now is the best time to buy. I’ve even seen it taken to the extreme. A local furniture store seems to be permanently “going out of business.” For 11 months out of the year, “everything must go” to liquidate all their assets. Then, I assume for legal reasons, they close their doors for a few weeks, change their name, and hold a “grand opening sale.” Within a month or two, they’re going out of business again. The store manager has obviously realized that customers equate “Going out of business!” with “Great deals!”

A friend of mine used to sell speakers out of the back of his van in parking lots, as if the speakers were stolen. The reality was that he had purchased the speakers legally from a wholesale distributor but found that people would automatically assume they were getting a great deal if they thought the items were “hot.” My friend never actually told people they were stolen, but neither would an actual thief. He just let customers assume that since he was selling them out of the back of a van, they were stolen. After negotiating back and forth with his buyers, he often sold the speakers for a higher price than even big-box retail stores were charging, because it was an impulse buy for customers who had no time to comparison shop. I’m not condoning this practice, and my friend wasn’t exactly following legitimate business practices, but you can learn a valuable lesson from his marketing strategy.

People shop on eBay for great deals, not because auctions are fun. They like to talk about the great deal they got on eBay. Auctions are not buyer friendly. You have to wait, check back often, bid multiple times, and run the risk of getting sniped. Customers hate these inconveniences, but they put up with them because they think they’re going to get a great deal. Keep this important point in mind when you’re listing products on eBay and other auction sites and even on other sales venues. Make shoppers believe they’re getting a great deal even if the deal isn’t all that great.

I hope this helps you I worked hard to do what i could.

  18. QUESTION:
What did money from the slave trade help to build?
What did money from the slave trade help to build? as soon as possible please.
    thanks :)

    • ANSWER:
NORTHERN PROFITS from SLAVERY…..The effects of the New England slave trade were MOMENTOUS. It was one of the foundations of New England’s economic structure; it created a wealthy class of slave-trading merchants, while the profits derived from this commerce stimulated cultural development and philanthropy. –Lorenzo Johnston Greene, The Negro in Colonial New England, 1620-1776, p.319. Whether it was officially encouraged, as in New York and New Jersey, or not, as in Pennsylvania, the slave trade flourished in colonial Northern ports. But New England was by far the leading slave merchant of the American colonies. The first systematic venture from New England to Africa was undertaken in 1644 by an association of Boston traders, who sent three ships in quest of gold dust and black slaves. One vessel returned the following year with a cargo of wine, salt, sugar, and tobacco, which it had picked up in Barbados in exchange for slaves. But the other two ran into European warships off the African coast and barely escaped in one piece. Their fate was a good example of why Americans stayed out of the slave trade in the 17th century. Slave voyages were profitable, but Puritan merchants lacked the resources, financial and physical, to compete with the vast, armed, quasi-independent European chartered corporations that were battling to monopolize the trade in black slaves on the west coast of Africa. The superpowers in this struggle were the Dutch West India Company and the English Royal African Company. The Boston slavers avoided this by making the longer trip to the east coast of Africa, and by 1676 the Massachusetts ships were going to Madagascar for slaves. Boston merchants were selling these slaves in Virginia by 1678. But on the whole, in the 17th century New Englanders merely dabbled in the slave trade………Then, around 1700, the picture changed. First the British got the upper hand on the Dutch and drove them from many of their New World colonies, weakening their demand for slaves and their power to control the trade in Africa. Then the Royal African Company’s monopoly on African coastal slave trade was revoked by Parliament in 1696. Finally, the Assiento and the Treaty of Utrecht (1713) gave the British a contract to supply Spanish America with 4,800 slaves a year. This combination of events dangled slave gold in front of the New England slave traders, and they pounced. Within a few years, the famous Triangle Trade and its notorious Middle Passage were in place. Boston and Newport were the chief slave ports, but nearly all the New England towns — Salem, Providence, Middletown, New London had a hand in it. In 1740, slaving interests in Newport owned or managed 150 vessels engaged in all manner of trading. In Rhode Island colony, as much as two-thirds of the merchant fleet and a similar fraction of sailors were engaged in slave traffic. The colonial governments of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania all, at various times, derived money from the slave trade by levying duties on black imports. Tariffs on slave import in Rhode Island in 1717 and 1729 were used to repair roads and bridges………………The 1750 revocation of the Assiento dramatically changed the slave trade yet again. The system that had been set up to stock Spanish America with thousands of Africans now needed another market. Slave ships began to steer northward. From 1750 to 1770, African slaves flooded the Northern docks. Merchants from Philadelphia, New York, and Perth Amboy began to ship large lots (100 or more) in a single trip. As a result, wholesale prices of slaves in New York fell 50% in six years. On the eve of the Revolution, the slave trade formed the very basis of the economic life of New England. It wove itself into the entire regional economy of New England. The Massachusetts slave trade gave work to coopers, tanners, sailmakers, and ropemakers. Countless agents, insurers, lawyers, clerks, and scriveners handled the paperwork for slave merchants. Upper New England loggers, Grand Banks fishermen, and livestock farmers provided the raw materials shipped to the West Indies on that leg of the slave trade. Colonial newspapers drew much of their income from advertisements of slaves for sale or hire. New England-made rum, trinkets, and bar iron were exchanged for slaves. When the British in 1763 proposed a tax on sugar and molasses, Massachusetts merchants pointed out that these were staples of the slave trade, and the loss of that would throw 5,000 seamen out of work in the colony and idle almost 700 ships. The connection between molasses and the slave trade was rum. Millions of gallons of cheap rum, manufactured in New England, went to Africa and bought black people.

  19. QUESTION:
    Where’s the money goes?
I don’t understand about today’s economic..but in this hard situation I become more confused…where are all the money (that government print) go? When and how it started? Why so many companies file bankruptcy? So many layoffs, and more economic struggle? And any idea to overcome this situation? Right now I’m still looking for a job to provide income for my family.

    • ANSWER:
the money goes to the people through government projects. the more money they print, the less its value…people called it inflation. so many company bankrupt because of the domino effects from one big sector. for instance, increase of oil to housing. because government uses its tax and other resources for something…war in this case and the price of natural resources that is essential for electricity etc went skyrocketing, company have to finance extra, they perform lay offs . then people who got lay off can’t afford to pay the mortgage (people loses its buying power) thus bank can’t make profits and then shut down too. that’s the big picture, there so many details about interest rate, fiac money, gold reserve, trade volume etc to talk about when discussing this matter.
the idea to end this is to end the war and use the resources spent on the war for humanity and creating jobs.
my suggestion to you…don’t look for job. create your own job, what it really takes is you will, not money. trust me, i’ve been in that shoes several years back.

  20. QUESTION:
Any Canadian online sites to learn about securities trading for self-directed investors?
I’m looking to learn about how to trade stocks online from Canadian banking sites.
    Specifically, stock trading knowledge.

    • ANSWER:
I guess you mean Canada Broker Site. I don’t know of any but you can trade any stocks from most
      any broker account.
      To Start Investing
It takes a long time to learn the stock market and for someone that wants to start investing in the market needs to decide what risk level he wants to take. CDs backed up by the government has about 3-4% annual return for the long term with a low risk. Bonds or Bonds Funds has about 5-7% annual return for the long term with a medium risk. Stocks or Stock Mutual Funds has about 8-10% annual return for the long term with a high risk and are more volatile than Bonds. Usually the more risk you take, the more return you will have on a bull run, but not always. To see the Risk vs Return go to: http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n620/Chief-1/RiskvsReturn.jpg
The stock market is basally made up of stocks and bonds. Investment managers pick a group of stocks to make a mutual fund or a group of bonds to make a bond fund. They even put a mixture of stocks and bonds together and call it Growth & Income Fund.

1- Mutual Funds: I like mutual funds because they have a group of stocks, could be around 100+, invested in different sectors, and manage by a professional. Managers have lots of schooling for investing in stocks, around 8 years. So I think managers can pick stocks better than I can. There are lots of different kinds of mutual funds that does not charge any fees to buy it’s shares and they are called Noload Funds. There are also some funds called Load Funds that charge 5% of your investment. But what I don’t like is the fact that most funds has trading restricting and you may not be able to trade more than 4 times a year. That’s because it makes it hard for the fund to make a good return if there is to much trading in the fund, causing the fund manager to make more buys and sells and keep more cash in the fund. Mutual funds are meant for long term investors.
2- Stocks: Stocks is more volatile than funds unless you spread you money in about ten different sectors and know witch sector will do best. And stock trading restricting is only a few days and that’s something that I like. If you own stocks, you need to keep up with all the company’s business so you don’t get stuck with a bad stock.
3- ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds): ETFs are like a mutual fund but trades like a stock and that is my main reason why I like ETFs. There are some ETFs that represents Index’s. An Index is like S&P or DOW. Index’s operate just like a mutual fund with a group of stocks in deferent sectors, manage by professionals. You can’t buy Index’s because they are not for sell. A company owns them. But you can buy a mutual funds or an ETF that has the same stocks as the Index they represent. There are a lots of different kinds of ETFs for someone to choose from. Some have 1x leverage, some have 2x leverage, and some has 3x leverage. There are also some that represent almost every kind of sector.

You can find several good brokers that charge .00 and under, per stock trade and no fee on Noload Funds. Most broker websites have good research tools. Some popular broker websites are Fidelity, TD Ameritrade, E-trade, Scottrade and others. I think you need a min. of 0 (some sites ,500) to open a broker account.

  21. QUESTION:
can i trade my new car in for a used one?
i have an 09 Corolla and i would like to trade it in on a older used small cross over
how can i do this and can i save money?
    i want a smaller payment
    thanks!
i just kelly blue booked my car and i owe 14 k and it is worth a little over 14 k
so i am equal, mainly due to the fact i put down 4 grand on it when i bought it

    • ANSWER:
I don’t know your specific financial picture on that car. However, it is typically true that a car you have had less than a year is usually upside down on the loan. Meaning you probably owe more than the car is worth on trade. If that is the case, then when you trade out you will be looking to either roll the shortfall into a new loan, or pay cash for the shortfall.

If you try to roll it onto the next loan, you will only be making matters worse. Lets say you are 00 upside down on the corolla. When you roll that onto the next car, you become even MORE buried. If its a ,000 car for example, you will be financing taxes and insurance on that new car (about 1500) plus the k from the corolla. The new car will continue to depreciate faster than your loan keeps pace. So in a year, you may find that you owe ,000 on a car worth ,000. Sounds bad, right?

Then there are the other factors. First, banks are not writing many over-advance loans these days. They are willing to loan up to the value of the car, not over. Second, if you do get approved for an overadvance loan, you typically need to go UP in value to bury the negative, not down. If the bank approves you for a 110% loan, and your negative is 00, y ou need a ,000 car to make the loan work.

Like I said, you may be the one person in 1000 that is not upside down on a 1 yr old car. But if you are, then this scenario is what would play out. If you are not upside down, then you have many more options.

  22. QUESTION:
How did money start into this world? Also is money to powerful now?
I was just wondering who started or what caused people to make gold, diamonds, silver, gems, and paper money be so important where it is deemed to be over all. I went to the store and was wondering why should i pay for things that i need naturally in order to survive. I understand if you want something you should work for it but when money in all types of form become so great when people grow up and say i want to make a lot of money instead of i want to be a better person how could i make this planet smarter. I think paper money, gold, silver, and other precious metals shouldn’t be something that has value but life it self should be. Just picture an world that everyone helping each other, everyone building the best technology, the best cities, creating the world smarter but somehow we don’t. I say the reason why we are not as advance as we should be is because of how we look at money.
sorry for english english want my primary language.
    wasn’t my primary language

    • ANSWER:
It started with simple barter systems. You grow vegetables, I raise livestock, we periodically trade these things. As goods became more specialized, it became more difficult to value things. Some people didn’t want things, and some things had more appeal than others. Eventually, gold became the commodity that was most universally valued and used as a basis for trade. And then over time, paper money is used to back gold. All of this follows a natural progression.

Today, money is just paper, backed by nothing. Not such a logical progression…

It’s difficult to abandon some common way of valuing things, the human mind resists it because it becomes more difficult to determine if you are getting a good deal.

  23. QUESTION:
How does currency trading work and where do I start?
Ok… believe it or not, I’m a finance major about to start my senior year at the end of August… although I haven’t taken any of the specialty/finance-minor courses yet, but yea, I don’t have a clue on a lot of stuff pertaining to stocks and foreign exchange. Right now I’m asking about FOREX and it’s really confusing.

Is money created out of thin air? Lets say hypothetically the Canadian economy has a total of 10 trillion Canadian dollars made by their government. When an American on Forex decides to buy like 1 million Canadian dollars, will Canada’s amount of dollars in their economy go from 10 trillion to 10 trillion + 1 million??

Also, where do you start with the analysis to check if a currency is going to appreciate or depreciate? I know there’s no way of knowing for sure but there is some analysis involved. Is it as simple as just reading the news? When do currency interest rates become important and where can I monitor those rates??

Anyway, I really hope all my questions will be answered once I take the concentration classes this year before I graduate :/ I hope I can find some answers on here too

    • ANSWER:
      Here’s the basic information;

      http://www.babypips.com/

      But,…. please note;
This website is supported by the Forex Industry (mostly brokers). A lot of information is only half the picture…. For example they point out that you can “trade” Forex 24 hours a day. While that’s true, you’ll get slaughtered in off business hours because of the lack of liquidity. In short… don’t get fooled by the hype. If you go on to trade Forex based on what this web site teaches…. you will get killed in the market place.

In the Forex trading market money is not “created” out of thin air. When you buy a currency pair you are taking a position (with your cash on margin) against an individual, a bank, a company, a country etc. You bring your dollars to the table and use them to establish positions in different currency pairs. Currency interest rates are always important….. they change the value (perceived worth) of a currency pair.

The Forex Market is considered one of the most difficult in the world to profit from. 95% of those that try fail in less than a year…. most in a few months or weeks. It can take years to profit year over year in Forex Trading……. and after many years of success…. some people blow up their accounts in a few weeks or days.

  24. QUESTION:
    Nintendo trading??? ?
I have a dark blue dsi and I want to trade it in for the 3DS.
    But here’s the problem:
The top screen is kinda busted. You can still see what written or the pictures. But the biggest black part is about the size of a penny.
Can I still trade it ? Does it have to be fixed?

    • ANSWER:
Sorry, but they won’t take it unless it’s an average. Every component must be working, that includes the screen, the buttons, and the stylus must be present. You’d have to fix the top screen first, but the price would be a rage, and you’d be better off investing that money into a 3DS itself. Lost cause.

  25. QUESTION:
Money Woes… while Pregnant and Parenting!!!!?
I don’t know what I want to hear, but I would like some kind words. I am 20 weeks preggo w/ Baby #2 and have been to trade school online for Diploma in Medical Billing and Coding. I always wanted to go into Computers, but my situation isn’t allowing it right now. My fiance is a hard worker, but is “in between jobs” often. He just applied to be a line cook at a local restaurant, but I am still worried. I don’t have $$ to buy the maternity clothes now, much less to start baby shopping. I have been working, but I hardly get anything from that job, so my career placement counselor is helping to find me something better. My rent was due yesterday; my bills are 2-4 months overdue, I have school loans I need to put in forbearance but I am confused with the process; ARRGHH!!! Our brakes are going out on the car, my son’s b-day is coming up…. What would you do? Have you been here, in these shoes? Please help… Anything would help…

    • ANSWER:
First, prioritize, make sure rent gets paid, electricity and utilities get paid and you have money to buy food. The rest can wait. Yes you may get called and bugged..but right now, just worry about the basics..food water shelter that sort of thing. The rest will wait. When you are in a position to get more caught up you might want to check into debt consolidation agencies. We used debt free and even though they do charge a service fee they helped us get organized and all our debt paid off within 2 years. As for the loans, call the bank you have the loan through and they will probably request a letter stating you need to put your loans in forbearance due to economic hardship. The period is usually 1-2 years or so, but they will let you know. You can renew forbearance when it comes time if you are still in a bind. You don’t have to pay the loan during that time, but it may still accrue interest. Fix the breaks as soon as you can. If you have any money coming in, set aside something each paycheck to put towards fixing the car. You may be able to find maternity clothes and baby items at second hand shops, or discount retailers like marshalls or tj max for good prices. Or garage sales, or even try something like freecycle.com and then its free. Also, if you attend church see if they have a “seeds and needs” type program. At our old church people would list things they had to give away and others would list things they needed. then they would be matched up. It really worked well. Just remember though, you still have 20 weeks before you need baby stuff and really they dont actually need a whole lot. food and diapers a pack of onesies and love. I slept in a padded laundry basket as my first bed and turned out fine :). I dont know how old your son is, but never underestimate the power of balloons…they are fun and festive and pretty cheap. a whole bunch of balloons…dont even have to have helium…just blow up…and scatter on the floor or tie to whatever, add a few friends, bake some cupcakes plan a few games, and you have an easy, cheap celebration. If you are worried about a gift, you might try a coupon type book made by you for things like an at home movie night , a free pass for chores one day, an ice cream sundae, etc. If he is really young you may be able to find a few toys for next to nothing at a second hand store, or again a garage sale. Or you could paint him a picture for his room or something like that. I had a friend who made her son shelves out of used snowboards she found, they looked really cool and he loved them. I’ve also seen pretty neat playhouses made out of courregated cardboard, and it really wouldnt take much to make one of your own..just find a big enough box, cut some windows and a door, use some paint and even maybe fabric touches here and there for shades or whatever. You could make it a castle, a space station, whatever he’s into. If you are not artistic maybe enlist the help of a friend who is. 3-D elements could even be added if you wanted to get fancy, with moddeling foam, egg crates, whatever. In any case, you WILL get through this. We had a time when we had just moved across country, my hubbys work was slow and he was donating plasma as often as he could so we could have gas money. It was rough but we got through it, and so will you. Oh, and if you have a spare moment..take a bubble bath and paint your toe nails :) it helps. I wish you all the best. Good Luck!!

      No, not trading standards.

If they want to take the money out of your deposit, you dispute that with the deposit scheme.
If they want you to pay (and you don’t think it’s fair) then you refuse to pay, they can take you to court and a judge can decide if it is fair.

Your only obligation is to leave the place in the same standard of cleanliness as when you moved in (including light fittings, curtains, picture rails, fans etc etc)

  29. QUESTION:
Is Forex and most other financial trading wrong or sinful for Christians?
I have stopped trading Forex altogether because I have developed serious ethical problems as a Christian with it.

Most types of financial trading are a zero sum game, even a negative sum game. It produces NOTHING of value, no goods or services, and no wealth is created like in Stock Trading. The net change in total wealth among traders is zero at the end of the day (sometimes even less!) – the wealth is just SHIFTED from one trader to another! (Reallocation of wealth.)

It is far too close to gambling for me (some skill, a lot of chance), and you make gains ONLY at another’s expense! Jesus said that we should love our neighbor as we love ourselves. How can you do that when you profit only at somebody else s expense? It is a violation of Jesus most basic commandment for humanity. And to give to worthy causes from Forex earnings may be great, but the end never justifies the means! I personally consider Forex now essentially a form of legalized stealing and robbery. The experienced Forex trader is committed to fleecing those who are inexperienced!

Don t pray and ask God to help you with your financial trading – he won t! Don t be deceived.

An agnostic has even said: In Forex you re not doing any useful work, and you re hoping to make a lot of money from it, right? Isn t this really like stealing from the public? You re hoping to get a lot of money from moving currencies around, and you re not giving the world anything in return – except moving some currencies around. I think that s just like theft.

Think carefully about what I have said. I don’t know if anybody can convince me otherwise/refute my arguments?
When I say God won’t help you with your financial trading, I don’t mean all trading. I mean trading that tends to be morally wrong. I tried it, while praying a lot about it, and in the end still lost most of my capital. I don’t think God will get involved in practices that are very speculative and close to gambling. It is simply against His Word.

    • ANSWER:
This is unusual to be phrased from a “Christian” standpoint, but I hear this same conclusion often.

The fact is 90% of all traders lose, whether Christian or not. Trading is as much a psychological challenge as anything, which most people will never master. This means they will NEVER master trading, until they address this issue. Either they don’t use money management or stops, or are undercapitalized or overtrade or don’t have a trading plan or the proper knowledge for the right market or the right timeframe or use the inicators properly, etc. It goes on and on. There is no other profession that is so challenging.

Most people never even figure out that the future cannot be known. You hear them asking if the market will be up or down tomorrow or higher at the close, or what is a good investment? Fact is, the future is uncertain. Most people have a problem with uncertainty and cannot reconcile this uncertainty with their fear and hope and need to be in control.

To protect their ego, many people conclude it cannot be done, or there is some sort of conspiracy, or it’s a rigged game, or God dosn’t approve. They refuse to see they are mostly hoping and wishing, which is another function of fear.

Have some more Hopium! See if that helps.

Many traders react to uncertainty by hoping it would just go away. They fruitlessly try to deny the implications of change and uncertain direction. But change is commonplace in trading, and it’s vital that you accept change and think of creative ways to deal with it. You must learn to accept the market on its own terms; hope must go out the window. After a trade is put on, it will do what it will do, and no amount of hope or fear will change it. Without a firm committment to this psychology, if you chase your tail in worry, the markets will eat you alive. If you failed, then your trading plan needs to be revised or you didn’t have one in the first place.

You can literally gamble on anything. You can certainly approach the stock market with a gambling mentality.

In most jobs you can be dishonest or not, diligent and responsible or not, and slide by without knowing much or doing much; worse than a gambling attitude, in my opinion. There is a lot of this type of dishonesty and irresponsiblesness in Christians as well as others, but the others aren’t hypocrites about it.

Trading will depend on your honesty with yourself, and your ability to change. Your persistence and determination to succeed is, in the final analysis, the critical element, and how well you persevere.

One of the most important Samurai texts ever written, by Miyamoto Musashi, The Book of the Five Rings (1643) , offers this advice: Think of what is right and true. Learn to see everything accurately. Become aware of what is not obvious. Be careful even in small matters. Do not do anything useless.

There can be no great success in trading (life) without great commitment, hard work, discipline, and the realization of the right type of thinking.

There are so many places you can go wrong, and only a few right ways of thinking will help you. Your ability to concentrate fully and intensely can mean the difference between consistently taking home huge profits and barely staying above water. It’s vital that you pay attention to multiple sources of information, sift through them, prioritize each separate piece, and make an astute decision once all information has been scrutinized. You can’t be distracted and unfocused while formulating a trading plan or monitoring an ongoing trade.

Because you can’t paint a petty picture means that God’s purpose for you lies elsewhere, not that painting is unchristian. Read Stock Market Wizards, and you’ll find that every one of them lost everything multiple times before finally figuring it out. Maybe you jumped conclusions or were presumptuous and quit too early, before learning what it takes to be a trader.

      From: Atlas Shrugged
” . . . the moral symbol of respect for human beings, is the trader. We, who live by values, not by loot, are traders, both in matter and in spirit. A trader is a man who earns what he gets and does not give or take the undeserved. A trader does not ask to be paid for his failures, nor does he ask to be loved for his flaws. A trader does not squander his body as fodder or his soul as alms. Just as he does not give his work except in trade for material values, so he does not give the values of his spirit – his love, his friendship, his esteem – except in payment and in trade for human virtues, in payment for his own selfish pleasure, which he receives from men he can respect.”

  30. QUESTION:
I’m afraid of losing money in trading, what can I do?
I have made good profits in simulation, like 50% a year for the past 3 years.
Now I have started with real cash and it looks like everything that I knew is completely missing from my mind. I’ve made two bad investments last week and they crashed me mentally. (I’ve lost 5%).
I think that my problem is I’m always thinking that is money and I can’t simply imagine them as points or something…
I’ve missed the opportunity to have my 5% back because I was affraid.
    Please help.

    • ANSWER:
Unfortunately, you have experienced what many other folks have – doing very well on simulation trading. Then, when they start actual trading with real money, they get wiped out pretty quickly.

They are surprised, discouraged, and eventually exit the scene much poorer than before.

As has been addressed many times on this forum – simulation is NOT a true picture of the real world of trading. In a simulation you have no stress, no emotion. In a simulation there is unlimited liquidity. In a simulation there is no slippage. In a simulation you do not have professional traders/computers playing “against” you.

If you become stressed because of 5%, what would happen if you lost 15%, 25% or even 40% as happened in 2008/2009?

You should re-evaluate your tolerance for risk and take a break, learn more about trading, before attempting more.

Education is your best course at this time.

  31. QUESTION:
How does Disney World pin trading work?
My husband , my kids and I are going in December and I was just curious. Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
Pin trading is fun! A good way to start out pin trading is to go on Ebay and find someone that has a whole bunch of them up for auction. Just be sure that the ones you buy are OFFICIAL Disney pins. Disney cast members will only trade official Disney pins, not ones made by 3rd party manufacturers, even if they do have pictures of Disney characters on them. Buy as many pins as you would like each person to end up with at the end of your trip. This will save money buying the starter pins on Ebay, you can also buy pin lanyards or storage bags. If you buy single pins at the parks, they are usually between and 8 each. Have fun!

  36. QUESTION:
    Instagram pictures everywhere…?
I googled my instagram name recently and I’ve found that my inatagram pictures were everywhere on weird websites one was even on a news stations website that said “live” why are they one these sites..?
The sites also have a different user base and I seen many likes on those pictures that didn’t match the likes on my intagram…

    • ANSWER:
By posting your pictures to Instagram, you are giving them permission to sell them in order to make money (for them, not for you). This is the cost of using a “free” service…they have to make money somehow. Since Facebook now owns Instagram, and Facebook is a publicly traded company, they need to make money to please their shareholders. You are also giving others permission to copy your pictures and send them to other places. Be thankful that you haven’t found any on porn sites…..yet.

If you don’t want your pictures to be used for advertising or any other purpose, don’t post them!

I’ve referenced an article that tells you how this can all be possible.

  37. QUESTION:
How to earn money trading forex ?

    • ANSWER:
Forex market prices have patterns which are repeated over and over, which can be utilized to forecast future movements.

Most of the successful foreign exchange traders will attest to the importance of knowing how to read, interpret, and comprehend Foreign exchange charts. There are many charts obtainable for use and you must be able to discover one that suits your needs.

The 3 most common charts utilized by traders are: (1) the line chart; (2) the bar chart; and (3) the candlestick chart.

Foreign exchange charts are crucial in determining the movement of currencies against one another for a specified time frame. They give a visual picture that’s clear and easy to read of how a pair of currency is doing whether stronger or weaker from which you can base your trading decisions.

  38. QUESTION:
Can you trade in a car when buying a used car?
Do you know … can you trade in a used car when buying a used car at a dealership?

    • ANSWER:
Definitely, and they’re going to love you. Not only will they make money on the one they’re selling (dealers make more per car on used sales than on new sales), they’ll make money on your trade, whether they put it into inventory or send it of to auction. Negotiate hard and keep the big picture in mind (both sides of the total transaction) – they have lots of margin on both ends to work with.

  39. QUESTION:
what year did the us start borrowing money from china?

    • ANSWER:
If you look at the bigger picture, all money is created out of debt and the fractional reserve system can’t function without it. In a nutshell, the federal reserve trades notes (that’s dollars) for bonds (also just paper), thus creating the money supply. This money is then borrowed at interest (a promise to pay it back, plus some) Where does the interest come from? If you and I are playing cards, and I own the deck, I ask for one card interest for every five cards I deal you. After we play for a while, I have back all the cards, but you still owe me interest. If you want to stay in the game, you have to continue to borrow cards from me at higher interest rates (2 cards for every 5 I deal). Eventually, after we have played several hands, you will owe me more than the 52 cards in the deck; this is debt collapse, or bankruptcy…In this way, the fractional reserve banking system is flawed and will always result in bankruptcy. What you see in federal reserve policy is a constant tweaking of the rules to perpetuate the game….

  40. QUESTION:
Why Free Trade with U.S.A. ?
Are Countries in Asia and South America considering free trade agreements with the U.S. for fear of loosing suport on other issues? • ANSWER:
They are considering a free trade agreement similar to NAFTA, but this one is AFTA. And we all know how lopsided NAFTA is, so I really don’t see AFTA being any better. Which brings me to my question:

Why can’t we have fair trade in lieu of free trade?

  41. QUESTION:
    Question about taking pictures?
Is it legal to charge people to take there picture without a license?

    • ANSWER:
Certainly, totally! How else do photographers (portrait, wedding, birthday, bar and bas mitvah, school, and let’s not forget about pet photographers either) make money!

It costs lots of money to purchase equipment, operate a studio and market ones business. It also takes lots of time to learn the trade (and, it can cost lots of money too.)

Photography can be an extremely lucrative career choice, but, there is a tremendous amount of competition for the opportunities.

The glamorous life that one sees in the media is one of the payoffs at the highest levels of the trade but it can have its drawbacks.

Photographers do not need a license to practice their art, craft, or trade. BUT, if they take a picture of a person, and then sell or use that picture commercially, they MUST have a model release stating that the person in the picture gives his or her permission for the photographer to use the image in a commercial manner.

Model Release. If you shoot pictures of people, you might need to pay them sometimes rather than the other way around!

Hope this answers all of your questions.

  44. QUESTION:
Can I trade in my car if…?
I bought my Toyota Corolla 2006 last year. I have been financing it. I have no problems with it with the exception of the heat that takes far too long to come on. I want to trade it in but I’m skeptical. Will I pay more? I would just refinance it but I think I just want to get rid of it b/c it hit 50k ( I do ALOT of travelling).
    What should i do?

    • ANSWER:
DO NOT TRADE YOUR CAR IN!!!

Trading makes your next car even more expensive. If you trade, your monthly payments of your old Toyota will (MOST likely) be added on to your new car. Then your new car monthly payments will be a HUGE amount of money.

INSTEAD…Sell your car privately instead of trading. You can take pictures and post them on AJC cars or some other car sellling websites.

  45. QUESTION:
If you could trade places with someone for one day, who would it be?
I’m doing The 60 Challenge on FB and day 6 is a picture of someone you’d love to trade places with for a day… I can’t think of anyone!

    Please, inspire me.
Don’t feed me that, I wouldn’t trade with anyone bologna. This is just a fun activity, nothing serious.
That’s pretty heavy, Earl. I’m more of a sunshine and daisies gal.

    • ANSWER:
I would trade with the most radical Liberal if I could keep the knowledge I have now! I know it would be a woman as that was shown in our last Presidential election where 75% of single women voted against America and for Obama! I do not care what race, but do care what creed as that is what they will support! We may note that something are always wrong and somethings are always right no matter what circumstances! These are few, but we have lost these in denial!

If I could not be this woman, I would take the place of Rush Limbaugh for a year, but hold him fast for advice.. I mean.. who knows all.. not me or you! I would be asking others that are noted for not lying for my shows! We would see a gradual increase in sentencing for women who commit the same crimes as men as this is extreme gender bigotry! We would see women that falsely accused anyone of rape be put in prison for the same sentence the male victim got! I would ask for money from men to give so that those who spent time in prison and were innocent could say.. “I was; I was” I was!” No, I am not insensitive to rape victims.. but I am against anyone being convicted that is innocent! Do we think the victims wanted the innocent in prison? No, but the system wanted anyone that was male!!! Thus case closed! Earl

  46. QUESTION:
    Options Trading question?
In Options trading, assume that one share of XYZ is . If a call strike price is with a premium of and the price of XYZ goes up to , then I would make a share. Here’s my question: do I need to be able to buy a contract’s worth (100 shares) of XYZ at before I sell it at a share?

    • ANSWER:
First of all if the strike price of the call option is and the stock is , it will be in the money and has a premium of AT LEAST .

Ok, if the stock goes to , the call options would be worth at least (35-25), making you a return of (35-25-5), not . But a profit nonetheless.

My examples kept extrinsic value and implied volatility out of the picture for easy understanding. Which is why I used the term “AT LEAST” in my examples.

In order to cash in that profit, you can simply sell the call option at its present value of without having to buy the stocks, i.e Exercise the option. So, you bought the option for and sold it for , making a profit without having to buy the stock at all.

Correction to the answerer above, there is no need for margin account for buying options. Margin is needed only when shorting naked options.

    • ANSWER:
printed money is just a piece of paper meaning it doesn’t have a value unless stated by the government that is guarantees its value (promise note) backed with reserves. it is made to provide people with the power to trade with others.

if the country prints too many paper money without backing it with actual reserves will result to a devaluation of the currency whereby the dollar you have now will be insufficient to buy the things it used to buy but everyone has money (this is inflation).

to understand this, think about gold as a reserve where you have 100 grams of it and it is enough to represent only a 1 dollar bill. if the country was able to print two 1 dollar bills with just 100 grams of gold, then the value of a 1 dollar is just half of that 100 grams of gold. but this is just a simplification of things when in the real world there are many things that affects money growth such as the money multiplier, interest rates, and more. if the economy is open then foreign exchange rate also goes in the picture.

however, a country is in debt because it borrowed money to finance something and to pay this is thru the money it has collected over the year (taxes). since it is a debt, then it has interest rates and a country can only pay according to what it currently has. a country usually borrows money to finance infrastuctures that will benifit the citizens of the country.

since you understand now the concept of inflation, too much printed money without backup reserves will just be pointless because it will just increase the numerical figure of the debt according to the inflation rate and the interest rate. it will just be a never ending cycle.

do you get my point? please don’t hesitate to ask again.

  48. QUESTION:
Why are their pictures on money?
certainly their crimes against humanity as being slave owners was one of the most heinous crimes committed on a large scale in US history, even Thomas jefferson who owned more than 200 slaves said it was wrong on at least two occasions, once in a letter to a friend and once in a paragraph that was deleted in a oringinal draft of the constitutuon. So why do we put their pictures on money right near “In God we trust”?

    • ANSWER:
Because they also formed the country that we currently live in. Many of our leaders had slaves back in those days. It was not considered such a bad thing at the time. Not all slave owners mistreated their slaves. That was really something that came in the next few years. Also, a quick history lesson for you is that slaves were not just here in the US. The African slave trade, in which black people sold other black people to white people, also sent many slaves to South America and Europe. The slave trade started in America back when it was made up of English colonies, not the United States. By time we declared our independence, slaves had been in America for over 150 years! We didn’t know any different.

Who would you rather see on it? Bill Clinton who cheated on his wife? Bush who has sent people to war? How about Nixon who claimed he wasn’t a crook? Or Hayes who stole the election in 1876?

There are lot’s of beginning wanna be pros out there willing to trade there time for yours.

What you’re looking for is called Time for Prints (TFP).

Try sites, like Model Mayhem, Model Brigade, or One Model Place.

Even Craig’s List, but be careful, check them out a bit, and don’t go alone.

I’ve just opened a studio, and I’m trading my skills and equipment, for the moment, for models willing to put up with my less than pro shooting, while I work out my studio lights, etc.

Again, be careful! There are many nice people on these sites, but….

  50. QUESTION:
what are some ways the US can eliminate its growing trade deficit?
What are some ways the US can eliminate it’s growing trade deficit??

    • ANSWER:
      1. Do you have any reason to believe that trade deficit is still growing? Imports have declined significantly since the economic crisis began; it is not clear that exports have fallen as fast.

      2. In general, there are two ways of reducing your trade deficit: import less or export more.

      A. Imports go down if you have less money to spend, if domestically produced goods become cheaper relative to imported ones, etc. In the case of the U.S., getting the Chinese currency to float freely would help with the latter.

But the classical approaches are brute force: import quotas and import tariffs (both of which the U.S. has agreed not to do under WTO rules).

      B. Exports go up if your prices go down. This means either producing the same goods more efficiently or making your currency worth less.

The latest variation on these age-old techniques comes from Warren Buffet:
      http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/fortune_archive/2003/11/10/352872/index.htm
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Import_Certificates
In one sense, it is a tariff. But it is different enough that it might get by the WTO rules.

Still, it was the Smoot-Hawley tariff that made the Great Depression “great”
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smoot-Hawley_Tariff_Act
so it is not clear that any sort of tariff or quota won’t make the situation worse. After all, balanced trade is not the be-all and end-all in and of itself; it is a small part of a bigger economic picture.
